Midsummer*Litha*Summer Solstice + Full Moon = Power

IMG_0117So June 20th (yesterday) was Midsummer. It was the longest day of the year. From time immemorial our most ancient of ancestors honored this day, along with other holidays attuned to the wheel of the year. As you may have been following….I honor the Father, all the time. I attend a church that revels in adoration for God the Father and His son Jesus Christ. Little attention is spent paying attention to the Divine Mother, Holy Mother, Goddess and I have reached a point in my life where I need to honor Her. So, I will. So, I did.

I spent the night, in nature, at a campground and spent an evening worshiping the Mother/Female aspect of the Trinity.

Why honor the Divine Feminine last night? Why the Holy Mother now?

Well, this could be answered a number of ways, the first is way is that last night was a mighty powerful day, energetically speaking. We were at the peak of the sun’s power, midsummer, the longest day of the year. This was combined with a full moon, but not just any full moon, the second full moon in Sagittarius.

It is also powerful to me personally. I am a Sagittarius who has spent the last several…well..more than several…years reveling in Aphrodite. If there is anything I need it is the power of Sagittarius the Centaur, the archer. I need the power of another archer, too. I need the Goddess in the incarnation of Artemis, the hunter. I need independence and self confidence and unconditional, unabashed self love. So…I created a ceremony. To be fair, I took a good portion of it from The Summer Solstice Rite by Gerina Dunwich found here.

I was near the beach so, after purifying myself at home and anointing myself with Patchouli oil for seeing visions, increasing intuition, and connecting with the spirit, I went to the ocean and gathered some sand and water.

I prepared 12 dried herbs, that were picked on the last New Moon by chopping them and infusing them with everything I wanted to get rid of in my life.

I prepared a wreath of dried grape vines that I tied flowers to. While doing this, I focused upon all I wanted to draw to me, all I wanted to call forth.

I prepared the wreath of roses and ribbons…well, because I wanted to, that is why.

Midsummer Ritual 2016

The circle was cast with the salt water and the sand. It was then smudged with sage. (fire/air)

I CONSECRATE AND BLESS THIS WINE IN THE DIVINE NAME OF THE GODDESS

Sprinkle a bit of salt and a few drops of water over the crystals to consecrate them and say:

WITH SALT AND WATER I CONSECRATE AND BLESS THESE STONES IN THE DIVINE NAME OF THE GODDESS. BLESSED BE. LET THEM BE A POWER SOURCE THROUGHOUT THIS YEA

Sprinkile a bit of salt water over the bell to consecrate it and say:

WITH SALT AND WATER I CONSECRATE AND BLESS THIS BELL IN THE DIVINE NAME OF THE GODDESS. BLESSED BE.

Light the incense. Close your eyes and fill your mind with pleasant thoughts and visions of the Mother Goddess as you say:

O BLESSED EARTH MOTHER WOMB-GODDESS, CREATRESS OF ALL, THIS SACRED CIRCLE IS CONSECRATED TO THEE

Ring the bell thrice and invoke:

SACRED LADYSPIRIT OF THE AIR, FIRE MAIDEN, BEAUTIFUL AND FAIR EARTH MOTHER, GIVER OF LIVES, ARTEMIS SISTER TO SUN GOD APOLLO, CRONE OF WATER, AGELESS AND WISE I NOW CALL FORTH THY DIVINE IMAGE!

Return the bell to the stone altar and then with both hands, raise the chalice to your lips. Drink some of the wine and then pour the rest around the outside of the circle as a libation to the Goddess and say:

THIS BLESSED WINE I DO POUR AS AN OFFERING TO THEE O GRACIOUS GODDESS.

Return the chalice to the altar. Again ring the bell thrice and say:

THIS SOLSTICE RITUAL I DO PERFORM IN HONOR OF THEE, O GREAT GODDESS AND IN THY SACRED NAME DO I NOW GIVE PRAISE.

Kneel before the altar. Offer up more incense, ring the bell in praise of the Goddess and then say in a loud and joyous tone of voice

You can see the herbs in the blue bowl in the front, the wreath of flowers around the alter rock and my floral halo.

BLESSED BE THE GODDESS! BLESSED BE THE GODDESS! The GODDESS IS LIFE THE GODDESS IS LOVE SHE TURNS THE WHEEL THAT CHANGES THE SEASONS AND BRINGS NEW LIFE INTO THE WORLD. BLESSED BE THE GODDESS! BLESSED BE THE GODDESS! THE GODDESS IS THE MOON AND STARS THE GODDESS IS THE SEA AND EARTH THE GODDESS IS THE CYCLE OF SEASONS SHE IS BIRTH, SHE IS DEATH SHE IS RE-BIRTH SHE IS DAY, SHE IS NIGHT SHE IS DARKNESS, SHE IS LIGHT SHE IS AL THINGS WILD AND FREE SO MOTE IT BE.

THIS NIGHT OF THE POWER OF LITHA WE ABANDON NON USEFUL ENERGIES. WE PLACE THEM INTO YOUR ETERNAL FIRE.

As you say the following, sprinkle herbs you prepared on the fire.

I RELEASE:  inadequacy, dependence, reliance upon Aphrodite to the exclusion of any other force, poverty, inability to make money on my own, feeling pathetic, violence, panic, the dance my husband and I do, neediness, shame about my body

THIS NIGHT OF POWER OF THE SECOND FULL MOON IN SAGITTARIUS WE CALL FORTH THE ENERGIES OF THE GODDESS IN THE COMING YEAR.  WE PLACE THEM INTO YOUR ETERNAL FIRE.

I CALL FORTH: Artemis, the archer, tied to this time of power. I call forth her energies into my being as the queen of the hunt and the glorious moon, the lightbearer. I call forth the lioness of my third chakra, the hare of my heart chakra, both sacred to Artemis. I also call forth all my sacred animals to be active and present throughout the year. I call down butterflies aplenty to guide me sweetly, softly, and easily down paths I must trod, giving me intuition and transformation. May the lioness ground my speech and give me fierce courage to speak my truth. My the hare give me control of my heart back to me. May she give it back a trickster quality, despite its fragility. May the hare teach me the beauty and strength in that softness. I call forth the horse to charge my solar plexus with confidence in who I am. May my honesty and sense of justice never be abandoned again. I call forth the owl to remind me of what I have always known. There is the wisdom of Sophia and the shrewdness of a night huntress in this sacral space. I call forth the elephant who roots me in the heaviness and truth of who I am. I call forth this creature to enliven my life and generate expression of my needs and desires.

I CALL FORTH: the idea that I can take care of myself. Self confidence, independence, sisterhood with women, connection with the natural world and connection with the world of the spirit, I call forth moonlight vision, the seeing, I call forth money and abundance. I call forth fruitfulness and plenty. I call forth stepping into the full glory of my goddess womanhood.

As you say the following, place the prepared wreath in the fire.

ALL THIS WE OFFER TO YOU HOLY MOTHER, GREAT GODDESS

(use the salt water to anoint)

LET MY MIND BE OPEN TO THE TRUTH.

Anoint your lips saying:

LET MY LIPS ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH.

Anoint your heart area saying:

LET MY HEART SEEK THE WAYS OF THE GODDESS, NOW AND ALWAYS.

Anoint the centers of your palms saying:

LET MY HANDS BE GIFTED TO WORK IN MAGICKAL WAYS.

Anoint your feet, saying:

LET MY FEET EVER WALK UPON THE SACRED PATH!

It was beautiful. It was amazing. Then, as if by chance, I awoke just as the sun was rising. I got to experience the special in between moment of the next dawn still clinging to the full moon. The moon was descending on my right hand while the sun was rising on my left. Rather spectacular.
