Today we are making Kidney Tonic Tea!
As many of you know or do not know I am working my way through Rosemary Gladstar’s Science and Art of Herbalism class. It is not as if I don’t know most of these herbs. Most of the new material is in the use of loose herbs in amazing ways. One of them is the use of teas on a regular basis for well-being. What I want is the knowledge and ability to legitimately call myself an herbalist. It is only now that it occurred to me that it may be smart if I got some specific certificates and credentials to match all this knowledge and lore.

Today’s craft was surrounding the kidneys. I made Kidney Tonic Tea. You have 2 kidneys and they are situated around the back of your abdomen. Their whole mission in life is to filter your blood. That is a HUGE job for these kiddos. They remove waste, they maintain pH balance, and they control water retention and bodily fluids. We have to take care of them. When they get clogged and yucked up we see problems like:
- Skin rashes
- Dark circles under the eyes
- Menstrual problems
- Itchy Ears
- Blood Pressure problems
This kidney tonic tea could not have come at a better time, either. I am so puffy and full of water from a weekend trip filled with bad, bad food. Here is the recipe for you to enjoy:
Kidney Tonic Tea
2 parts Dandelion Leaves
2 parts Marshmallow
1 part Cornsilk
1 part Chickweed
1 part Cleavers
Use 2 tsp of tea to 1 cup of boiling water. Let it steep for 10-15 minutes. Drink 3-4 cups a day for at least a week or whenever you need to tonify your kidneys.
